Daniel Townsend

Daniel Townsend, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Mt Pleasant, IA.Born April 12, 1945, in Springfield, IL, Daniel Joseph was the son of Robert and Eileen Huber Townsend. He was a 1963 graduate of Griffin High School in Springfield. Following high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Air National Guard. He was discharged in December of 1966. Dan married Kay (Raines) on July 24, 1965. They later divorced. On June 14, 1985, he married Karen Joyce Crawford in Fairfield, IA. After his service in the National Guard, Dan worked in southeast Iowa for Stith and Devinger. He became a plumber and in 1994, went to work for Brockway Mechanical in Burlington, IA. Dan then was employed by Pro-Plumbing in Burlington, from which he retired in 2007.Dan enjoyed a variety of pastimes including feeding and watching hummingbirds, gardening, and growing flowers. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Bengals. He also liked to watch NASCAR races and followed his favorite driver, Rusty Wallace. Along with his wife, Karen, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Dan is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Phil) Hendrickson of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Pat Townsend of Castle Rock, CO; a step-son, Daniel Crawford of Fairfield, IA; two brothers, Mike Townsend of Springfield, IL, and Dave (Michelle) Townsend of Chatham, IL; and seven sisters, Nancy (Carl) Saladino of Springfield, IL, Jean Townsend of Springfield, IL, Mary Teresa Ballentine of Chatham, IL, Pat (Bill) Anderson of Springfield, IL, Carol Townsend of Springfield, IL, Janet (Chuck) Reynolds of Springfield, IL, and Marilyn (Joe) Mueller of Springfield, IL. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jake Townsend, Brett Townsend, and Sam Townsend and a step grandson, Tim Crawford. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tommy Townsend.
