Dan Showman

MARTINSBURG-Dan Showman, age 81, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born August 14, 1937, in Sigourney, to Brady and Mabel (Ryder) Showman and graduated from Sigourney High School. In 1958 he married Norma Krumvieda in Sioux City. Dan served in the United States Air Force for 12 years and was discharged on July 11, 1968. Following his discharge he moved back to Sigourney where he drove a truck for Dickey Transport, Bruns Inc., Farm Service and Home Oil before retiring about 20 years ago. Dan was a member of the Hedrick American Legion and served as mayor of Martinsburg for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, stock car racing, woodworking, hunting, mushroom hunting, gardening, sitting under the shade tree in his swing and coffee time at the Sinclair Station and Pigtail Charlie's in Hedrick.
Survivors include six children: Denise Clark of Ottumwa, Judy (Dave) Wardlow of Ottumwa, Gail (Robert) Molkenthin of Ollie, Steve (Rhonda) Showman of Pella, Pam Kent of Hedrick and Kenny (Kim) Showman of Knoxville; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; six siblings: Mildred Hartson of Cedar Rapids, Virginia Glick of Lusk, Wyoming, David Showman of Eldon, Donald (Sharon) Showman of Des Moines, Connie (Gary) Messerschmitt of Hedrick and Thomas (Kathy) Showman of Otterville, Missouri and special friend: Norma Sanchez of Martinsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife: Norma; parents; four granddaughters: Callie and Erica Clark and Stephanie and Kaci Kent and two sisters: Mary Showman and Dorothy Jacobs.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be at Rayburn Cemetery near Hedrick, with military rites by the Hedrick American Legion. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the funeral home.
