Dan Flynn

KEOTA-Dan Flynn, age 74, of Keota, died Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home.
    Dan was born January 12, 1949, in Washington, Iowa, to Robert and Darlene (Conrad) Flynn.  He graduated from Keota High School in 1967 and Iowa State University, with a degree in Animal Science. On June 27, 1970, he married Vickie Norenberg at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and they were later divorced.  Dan lived and farmed in the Keota area and also sold seed for Garst and other companies for many years.  He served as President of the Washington County Cattlemen’s Association and Keota Jaycees, was a member of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, was heavily involved with the Keota Museum and Keota Pool Advocates and helped with the Keota Veteran’s Memorial.  In addition to raising Simmental cattle, Dan worked with many young farmers, introducing them to the cattle business.  He also had an uncanny ability to get an eclectic group to work together toward a common cause.  Dan enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and playing cards. 
    Survivors include three sons: Scott (Holly) Flynn of Keota, Matthew (Jenny Hobbs) of Keota and Brett (Brynn Weimer) of Chicago; five grandchildren: Jacob, Thomas, Anna, Lily and Toby; four sisters: Linda (Clare) Greiner of Derby, Nancy Tutor of Ankeny, Cindy (Mike) Lebsack of Iowa City and Janie (Ed) Odegard of LeClaire and two brothers: Jim (Rita Jo) Flynn of Harper and Doug (Rosemary) Flynn of Keota.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Patricia Flynn Skibbe.

    Memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, followed by a reception at Lagos Acres Country Club.
