Dale Wehrle, 89, of Salem, IA, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Visitation will begin after noon on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be at the Glasgow Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to the donor's choice in his memory. The son of William J. and Florence E. (Dicus) Wehrle, Dale Emmet was born on September 12, 1921 in Rome, IA. He attended rural country school near Rome. On March 7, 1942, he married Agatha Belle Blucher in Hannibal, MO. They moved to California and lived there until his retirement. The couple returned to Iowa 20 years ago. Always a hard worker, Dale was known for working well with people. During WWII he worked for Boeing building airplanes. He was a foreman for a plastics manufacturer for over 20 years. He also worked as a supervisor for Standard Oil Company. Many hours were spent working on a farm. Dale was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and searching for mushrooms. He also enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Pheasants Forever. Survivors include his wife Agatha of 68 years; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Dale is preceded in death by a son, Dale Carroll Wehrle; and ten brothers and sisters.
