Dale M. Brenneman was born August 11, 1918 in rural Kalona, Iowa the son of Manas and Lydia (Miller) Brenneman. He attended Prairie Dale rural school. On December 29, 1940 he was united in marriage to Iva Idella Schlabaugh in Kalona. He has lived and farmed in the Kalona community all of his life. He was a member of the Sunnyside Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Dale served on the school board at Iowa Mennonite School. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting, and spending time at his cabin with family and friends. Dale died on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 93 years. Dale is survived by his wife Idella of Kalona; three daughters - Carolyn Brenneman; Elaine Brenneman; Joyce (Lloyd) Bender; a son Richard (Chris) Brenneman all of Kalona; a daughter-in-law Lucinda (George) Hoskins of Wellman; nine grandchildren - Rodney Bender, Heather Bender, Heidi (Andrew) Willems, Elizabeth (Stephen) Fay, Cody (Kelcey Everson) Brenneman, Amanda (Troy) West, Nicholas (Jocelyn Figg) Brenneman, Tyler Brenneman, Patrick Brenneman; five great grandchildren - Makenzie Fay, Aubrey Fay, Chloe Fay, Simon Willems, Sawyer Brenneman; a sister Ruth Hershberger of Wellman; and a brother Leroy Brenneman of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Gordon Brenneman in April of 1994; five brothers - Norman, Ezra, Edwin, Floyd, Robert; and four sisters - Fannie Miller, Leta Miller, Amanda Nafziger and an infant. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. Pastor John King and Pastor Floyd Helmuth will officiate. Burial will be held prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at the South Gingerich Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Kalona Volunteer Fire Department.
