Dale "Gene" Elmore, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.Visitation will be held beginning after 12 noon, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, on Monday, October 24, 2016, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at the Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Rod Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the University of Iowa Cancer Clinic or Shriners Hospitals for Children in Houston, TX. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.Born February 20, 1934, in Salem, IA, Dale Eugene was the son of Walter and Edna Maude (Bailey) Elmore. He grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. On December 27, 1952, Dale married Virginia Garmoe in Salem. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2011. Dale lived for much of his life in the Mt. Pleasant area, along with living for 30 years in Seward, NE. He was a technician and plant breeder for Cargill Hybrids for 36 years, retiring in 1993 while living in Seward. Dale and his wife, Virginia enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years, where he was a volunteer driver for Shriners Hospital providing transportation to children and their families to the hospital. For two summers he was a shuttle bus driver at Rocky Mountain National Park and while in Mt. Pleasant served as a R.S.V.P. volunteer driver. His greatest love was spending time with his family and taking pictures of wildlife, especially eagles. Survivors include one son, Steve (Brenda) Elmore of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two daughters, Sheila (Bob) Newman of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Teresa (Rod) Bechtolt of Florissant, MO; seven grandchildren, Bobbi, Julie, Brandy, Kevin, Tamara, Justin, and Joshua; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Mackenzie, Brandon, Hunter, Asher, and Amelia. Along with his wife, Virginia, Dale was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glen Elmore, Lee Guy Elmore, and Ray Elmore; and one sister, Irma McDowell.
