Dale Cammack, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, November 25, 2011, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 1st, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 2nd, at the Salem Friends Church in Salem, IA, with Mr. Daryl Coffin officiating. Burial will follow in Salem South Cemetery with full military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Salem Crew Public Library and the Lewelling Quaker Shrine. The son of Ray and Irene Simkin Cammack, Dale was born on February 10, 1919, in Jackson Township, IA. A lifelong resident of the rural Salem area, he graduated from Salem High School. Dale was drafted into the Army to serve in World War II in November of 1941. On May 30, 1943, he married Marcia Emeline Hannah at the minister's home in Mt. Pleasant. She survives. Dale loved his life on the farm, founded by the Cammack family in 1838, and devoted many years to nurturing the land and serving on agriculture boards. He served on the boards of ASCS, Soil Conservation, and Farm Bureau. For fifteen years Dale was a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer. A family and community minded man, Dale was a Boy Scout leader, a 4-H leader, and served on the Salem and Henry County School Boards. He also served on the Salem South Cemetery Board and Lewelling Quaker Shrine Board. Dale was a commander for the American Legion Simkin-Pidgeon Post #94 in Salem. He was of the Methodist faith, delivered meals to shut-ins, enjoyed wood working, and raising amaryllis flowers. In his spare time, Dale was an avid reader as well as a football, baseball, and basketball fan. Along with his loving wife, Marcia, of 68 years, Dale is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Myron) Koets and Penelope Cammack, all of Pipestone, MN; two sons, Lawrence (Audrey) Cammack of East Peoria, IL, and Mark (Audrey) Cammack of Danville, CA; a brother, Clyde (Doris) Cammack of Cedar Rapids, IA; a sister Lois (LeRoy) Lantz of Olympia, WA; and a brother-in-law, William Morrow of Carmichael, CA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elbert Cammack; and two sisters, Mildred Morrow and Marjorie Riepe.
