WASHINGTON-Darl C. Kyle, age 90, of Washington, died Monday, October 13, 2008, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, following a lengthy illness. Darl was born August 18, 1918, in Pleasant Plain, Iowa, to Ira and Savilla (Kiger) Kyle. He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1935 and received his B.A. from Parsons College. Darl then served in the U.S. Army during World War II before receiving his LL.B. from the University of Iowa in 1949. On June 2, 1940, he married Marjorie Lynn in Washington, D.C. Darl worked as an insurance executive in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Galveston, Texas before retiring to Cedar Rapids in 1980. Darl and Marjorie have lived at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington since 2001. Darl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids and the Iowa State Bar Association. He enjoyed reading and golfing. Survivors include his wife: Marjorie of Washington; daughter: Darla Thacker of Greensboro, North Carolina; son: Scott and wife Melody of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren: Catherine Thacker of Greensboro, North Carolina, Berkeley Claxton of Austin, Texas and Morgan Smith of Plano, Texas and two great grandchildren: Kennedy and Piper Claxton of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at the Keota Cemetery in Keota, with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County.
