KEOTA-Cyril "Cy" M. Osweiler, age 86, of Keota, died of heart failure Saturday, September 2, 2006, at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Cy was born September 5, 1919, near Keota, to Mathias and Mary (Conrad) Osweiler and attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Clear Creek Township. He served in the 701st Military Police Battalion during World War II. On October 7, 1950 he married Nadine Gretter at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. Cy worked as a mechanic for Gretter Motors for 17 years, was the custodian for St. Mary Church and School, drove a school bus for Keota Community Schools and owned and operated Osweiler Repair for 20 years before his retirement. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. Cy enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family, especially his grandson Chris who followed in his footsteps as a mechanic. Survivors include his wife: Nadine of Keota; two daughters: Karla Peiffer and husband Robert of Iowa City, Lori Benesh and husband H. Michael of Iowa City; one grandson: Chris Peiffer of Iowa City; one step-grandson: Robert Benesh of Iowa City; three sisters: Geraldine Rezac of Keota, Lillian Coffman of Keota and Irene Clubb of Sigourney; two half sisters: Lorraine (Stan) Kolosik of North English and Marlene (LaVerne) Pennington of Winter Haven, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; step father: Frank Osweiler and two brothers: Richard and Louis. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a combined prayer service and rosary at 7:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
