Corey Hummell

November 19, 1969 — February 25, 2007

Corey A. Hummell, 37, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, February 25, 2007, from injuries sustained in a house fire at his home. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastors Joe Forest and Bob Hamm officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the Corey Hummell Memorial, which will be used for the family's benefit. Born November 19, 1969 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Corey was the son of Kenneth "Red" and Connie Bain Hummell. He was a 1988 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Community High School. He attended Southeastern Community College and Hamilton Tech. On November 6, 1993, he married Melissa Hirschy at the Trenton Missionary Church. Corey initially worked at the Sirloin Stockade and later was employed at the Hy-Vee Bakery. He currently worked in the meat department at Dave's Foods. Corey loved all sports. He excelled in football in high school. A spotlight in his career was rushing for 202 yards in the homecoming game against Ft. Madison in his senior year. He bowled in the American League and Friday Night Scratch League, was on the 2004-2005 All Star Team and had served on the Mt. Pleasant Men's Association Board of Directors. Corey had coached the A.S.A. Ballistic girls softball team. He was also a devout fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves. Survivors include his wife Melissa of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three daughters, Nikole Rae Hummell, Hallie AnnMarie Hummell, and Kelsey Lee Hummell all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; his parents of Mt. Pleasant, and by his maternal grandmother, Ruth Bain. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and several other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and by a brother Greg Hummell.
