Connie J. Liechty, 65, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at her home following a long, courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will begin 12 noon on Tuesday, May 27th, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., at the Memorial Chapel, followed immediately by a Rosary. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 28th at 10:30 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. Interment will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Born December 8, 1948, in Kirksville, MO, Connie Jean was the daughter of Loren and Evelyn (Mason) Truitt Sr. She moved with her family to Mt. Union, IA when she was 3 years old. She was a 1969 graduate of Winfield-Mt. Union High School. On October 14, 1972 she was united in marriage to Jerry Liechty at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. The mother of five daughters, Connie was a homemaker. A natural care-giver, Connie was the founder of Teddy Bear Daycare which was located in her home. Over the years, she has cared for children, the elderly, and people with a disability. Connie was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, along with being a member of the choir. She was a Cursillo leader. Connie's passion was interior decorating. She was a chapter leader of the Compassionate Friends in Burlington. In her spare time, Connie's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed karaoke, sewing, scrapbooking, and genealogy. Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Mt. Pleasant, IA; four daughters, Kathleen (Corey) Stucker of Seville, OH, Mindy (Michael) Shelledy of Winfield, IA, Kerry (Alex) Grimm of Williamsburg, IA and Karen Liechty of Palo, IA; her mother, Evelyn Truitt of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Jimmy (Jeannie) Truitt of Houma, LA and LaVern (Arlene) Truitt of Olathe, KS. Connie was preceded in death by her father, Loran Truitt, Sr.; an infant daughter, Angie Noel Liechty; and by an infant granddaughter, Abbigail Grimm.
