Cleo Daniel Dickel was born June 22, 1922 near Frytown, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Katie (Kinsinger) Dickel. He graduated from Center High School in 1941. On July 15, 1943 Cleo was united in marriage to Nora Miller at her parents home in rural Frytown. Cleo has lived in the Frytown community his entire life. He worked for Yoder Feeds as a truck driver, he was a Phillips 66 Dealer, and started Dickel Construction where he owned and operated it from 1950 - 1996. Cleo was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church where he served as trustee, an usher and also taught youth Sunday school. He was a member of the Iowa Land Improvement Contractors. He enjoyed making furniture in his spare time, coon hunting, trains, machinery and loved to travel. Cleo died on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 91 years. Cleo is survived by his wife Nora; a son Keith (Cindy) Dickel of Kalona; two daughters Carol Springer of Ames, and Joanne Miller of Iowa City; 8 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a brother Marvin Dickel of Racine, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Jared Tadlock; a brother Donald Dickel; and a sister Beulah Yoder. Celebration of life service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, March 1, 2014 at East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Sonya Stauffer Kurtz and Pastor Aaron Fleming will officiate. Burial will be held in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 pm Friday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A memorial fund has been established for East Union Mennonite Church, Parkview Manor, and Visiting Nurses Association. Messages may be left for the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
