Cleo D. Cox was born on March 30, 1913 in Delta, Iowa, a daughter of Curtis and Nellie Mitchum Leathers. She grew up in Delta and attended school there. She was united to John Cox Jr. On December 12, 1932 in Rock Island, Illinois. Other than a short time in Coralville they have since lived in the South English community. She was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed many holiday and Sunday meals. She took great loving care of her children and grandchildren. Cleo had a large weed free garden that she diligently care for. She canned and preserved her produce. She also raised chickens ans was known for dressing chickens for others. Cleo watched the neighborhood closely and was there for all of us in our times of need. She is survived by a son Ronald (Marcia) Cox of South English, six grandchildren: Kandi (Steve) Hergert of Middle Amana, IA; Emmett Cox Jr. Of Cedar Rapids, IA; Todd Cox of Monroe, MI; Angela (Brad) Weber of Kinross, IA; Ronald (Lisa) Dietze of Seattle, WA; Larry (Keya) Cox of North English, IA; 16 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, sons Larry and Emmett, and siblings: Cleta, Wilma, Clifford, George and Wilford. Cleo D. Cox, age 100, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Wellman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour before the service on Monday. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery.
