Claude Amos Thomas, age 70, of Marengo, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center, in Cedar Rapids. There will not be any services. Memorials may be contributed to the Dialysis Unit, at Compass Memorial Hospital or the Marengo EMS. Kloster Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Claude is survived by his wife Diana; four children Robert Thomas, of Tennessee, Christopher Thomas (Jennifer), of Tennessee, Kevin Thomas, of Alabama, Ben (Ashley) Pierce, of Deep River, and Amber Pierce (Kris), of Belle Plaine, 13 grandchildren; four great-great children, two sisters Lou Luetkens of Wisconsin and Jean Ashley of Alabama; and a brother Wayne (Polly) Thomas, of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents Jonathan and Ida Thomas, a son Steven in 2000, a sister Beverly Files, and three brothers George, Ronald and Jerry Thomas.
Claude was born July 26, 1950, in Walker County, Alabama, the son of Jonathan Edward and Ida Lou (Dill) Thomas. He graduated from Jasper High School. While in high school, Claude drove the school bus for two years and later worked at the Shumate Standard Station. On June 20, 1969, Claude was united in marriage to Glenda Gay and made their home in Carbon Hill, AL. They were blessed with four sons, Robert, Christopher, Steven and Kevin. He later married Barbara Diana Harris on May 20, 2006 and lived in Parrish, AL. Claude inherited two children Ben and Amber Pierce. While living in Alabama, Claude owned and operated Rainbow Carpet Cleaning. He also worked at Alabama Power, and retired from there after 40 years. They moved to Marengo in 2017. Claude loved being with his family and inviting people over to eat. He enjoyed researching genealogy on the computer and playing blue grass music on his guitar.
