Williamsburg Clark R. Soedt was born on July 1, 1913 in rural Pilot Township, Iowa County, Iowa, a son of Julius and Millie Osmus Soedt. He attended Pilot Township Country School. Clark farmed with his father until 1937. On July 25, 1937, he was united in marriage to Agnes Meta Huedepohl at her parent's home in rural Homestead. They farmed in the Williamsburg area until 1955 when they purchases the family farm. Clark retired in 1978. He became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in February 1938. Clark enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead. He died on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Colonial Manor in Amana, Iowa. Clark lived 96 years and 17 days. He is survived by three daughters: Marjean (Raymond) Hansen of Davenport, IA, Joanne Happ of Marion, IA and Jerilyn (James) Spizale of West Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, wife Agnes, sisters Ethel Case and Luella Kahler, brother David Soedt and a son-in-law Herman J. Happ Jr. A Celebration of His Life Service was held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial was in the Pilot Grove Cemetery near Williamsburg. Visitation was at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 5 Pm to 7 PM, A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church and Essence of Life Hospice. Casket bearers included Tim Hansen, Brian Happ, Chris Spizale, Kipp Olsen, Terry Driefurst, Chris Payne and Jay Brasher.
