Oxford Clark Burns, age 84, who died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Colonial Manor in Amana. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 26th at the funeral home with a VFW service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Iowa City at 2:00 PM on Wednesday. Crawford Clark Burns was born on September 30, 1926 in Downing MO, a son of Roy and Osa (Black) Burns. He graduated from Maquoketa High School and enlisted in the US Army at age 17. He was in both active and reserve duty and retired as a Command Sergeant Major. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Becker on October 22, 1949 to this union they had two children Sue & Robert. The couple later divorced. Clark later was united in marriage Shirley Schumacher on May 26, 1973 in Cedar Rapids. Clark managed the Amana Feed Mill then worked for Chipman Feed in Williamsburg until retiring in 1988. Clark and Shirley enjoyed wintering in Texas for 24 years. Their summers they enjoyed mowing and working at Sleepy Hollow near Oxford, were they also lived. Clark's greatest joy was watching his grandchildren in their activities and spending time with family and friends. Clark is survived by his wife Shirley of Oxford, IA; six children: Sue (Dale) Gosnell of Conroy, IA; Robert (Sue) Burns of Jacksonville, FL; Connie (John) Pegump of Walford, IA; Kevin (Teresa) Schumacher of Jefferson City, MO; Jeff Schumacher of High Amana, IA; Mark (Shelly) Schumacher of Amana, IA; 12 grandchildren: Ann (Blake) Kleinmeyer of Williamsburg, Greg ( Keri) Gosnell of Mason City, Catherine, Elizabeth & David Burns all of Jacksonville, FL, Justin (Julie) Pegump, Teran Pegump, Jesse (Kate) Schumacher, Nikki Schumacher and Tyler Schumacher all of Cedar Rapids, Sheena (Josh) Hogue and Kyle Schumacher all of Amana and 4 great grandchildren: Ella Kleinmeyer, Aria Pegump, Zach and Joseph Schumacher; two brothers: David (Shirley) Burns and Kenneth Burns all of Maquoketa, IA; and a sister: Beverly (Milan) Ashbrenner of Monet, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Howard and Clarence and a sister: LaVonne Hope.
