Amana-Clarence John Wichmann was born June 7, 1925 near Homestead, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Anne Koester Wichmann, Sr.. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church near Homestead, on July 5, 1925 and also attended school at St. John's. He was confirmed April 2, 1939. Clarence married Ruth Folkmann on February 18, 1948 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. They were the parents of three girls- Donna Jean, Ruth Anne and Jeanne Lynn. On July 3, 1955 the Lord called them to their Eternal Home, as the result of an auto accident. On June 5, 1963 Clarence was united in marriage to Eleanor Wacker Cooper in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Cedar Rapids for several years, and then moved to Amana. Clarence farmed with his father and brothers most of his life. He also worked for Ralph's Sanitation in Amana before retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served as an elder. Clarence died Thursday, April 28, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after heart failure at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 21 days. Clarence is survived by his wife: Eleanor of Amana; a stepson: Gary (Pam)Cooper of Story City; two step grandchildren: Amy (Chris) Swinhart and Sgt. Andrew Cooper all of Denver, Colorado; two great grandsons: Garrett and Jordan Swinhart; three brothers: Ray (Eleanor) Wichmann of Williamsburg, Adolph Jr. ( Regina 'Blondie') and Earl ( Marilyn) Wichmann all of Homestead; three sisters: Dorothy (Loren) Folkmann of Williamsburg, Fern (Carl) Oehl of Amana and Ethel Wichmann of Osage and several nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth, three daughters: Donna Jean, Ruth Ann and Jeanne Lynn and his parents. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2005 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Homestead, Iowa. Pastor Wayne Woolery will officiate. Burial will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
