Clarence Van Amerongen, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Klein Center in West Burlington, IA. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 that evening. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Earl Swigart officiating. A private burial service will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Berean Bible Society and Les Feldick Ministries. Born April 11, 1923 in Ogden, IA, Clarence Cornelius was the son of William and Jennie (Rouwe) Van Amerongen. He attended rural schools near Mt. Pleasant. On November 12, 1944, he married Marilyn Mary Buster in Grandview, IA. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1988. Clarence married Verlee Barr Carver on April 22, 1989, at Harmony Bible Church. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2009. Clarence was a lifelong carpenter and farmer. He owned and operated Van's TV Repair and Sales. He had also worked for many years at Motorola in quality control. He attended Harmony Bible Church and Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and playing golf. A nature enthusiast, he spent many hours outdoors. Clarence traveled extensively and had taken many trips. His greatest love was spending time with his family, and he was always eager to play a game of dominoes. Survivors include three sons, Richard (Karen) Van Amerongen of Burlington, IA, Robert (Peggy) Van Amerongen of West Burlington, IA, and Kenneth (Jolene) Van Amerongen of Loveland, CO; a step daughter, Terri White of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three step sons, Mark Carver of Mt. Union, IA, Keith Carver of Salem, IA, and Randy Carver of Mt. Pleasant, IA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Preceding Clarence in death were his parents; both wives; three brothers, Pete, Gary, and William Van Amerongen; and one sister, Jane Thomes.
