Christie Scherer

Christie Lynn Scherer, 60, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, entered eternal life on November 11, 2013. As per her wishes she will be cremated. A funeral mass will be on Friday November 15th, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be 1 hour prior (beginning at 930) in the gathering space at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with family present, a meal will follow at the Moose Lodge in Mt. Pleasant. Interment will be in Burge Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Christie was born September 22nd, 1953 to Ted Arlene (Hoit) Scherer in Cherry Point, NC. They later moved to New London where Christie attended and graduated school in 1971. She attended Parsons College and Iowa Wesleyan College. After her schooling Christie worked at Brau Drug as a clerk, Heatilator in production and then for more than 20 years Christie was the administrator of the Fellowship Cup. She was a foster parent to more than 10 children, and was a very active member in her church, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, as a former member of the social action committee, she served as a Religious Education teacher, was a team member in RCIA (Right Christian Initiation for Adults) and served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Christie had a love for many things, she enjoyed travel, she loved to read many types of books, she had a love for knitting (mostly prayer shawls and pillows for her church) and she had many pet companions who were dear to her heart. Christie is survived by her mother, Arlene Scherer of New London; brother, Ronald Scherer of New London; sister, Julie (Mike) Garmoe of Mt. Pleasant; three nieces, Mary Sarah Garmoe, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Tori Scherer of Coralville, IA; a nephew, Micah Garmoe of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and two great nieces, Abigail Agatha Garmoe of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are her great friends till the end, Harold Pollmeier, Helen (Cooky) Schroeder, Marilyn Lanferman. She was preceded in death by her maternal paternal grandparents, her father and a younger brother. .
