Choum Baccam, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Friday, September 18, 2009, beginning at 12:00 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 20, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jesse Perry and Mr. Monekham Hacksisombath officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Inurnment will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established to the Henry County Health Center Dialysis Unit. Choum was born May 10, 1935, the daughter of KhamAn Baccam and Kien Lo Thi in Muang Pieng, Xieng Khoang, in the province of Sonla,Viet Nam. On July 9, 1953, she married Toan Baccam. In 1976, Choum moved with her family to Mt. Pleasant and has lived there ever since. She was a full time mother and homemaker. Choum enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and mushroom hunting. She was a music lover and was especially fond of old Tai music. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. She is survived by her husband, Toan Baccam, and seven daughters, Yenchay (Tony) Tangkhapanya, Bonnie Baccam, Tia (Rod) Scheitlin, and Phanie Baccam all of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Joy (Damon) Benedict of North Liberty, IA, Panith Baccam-Crile and Panom (Dave) Foell all of Waukee, IA; three sons, Khoung Kham (Oat) Baccam, Khamheuang Baccam and Lou (Stacie) Baccam, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; sixteen grandchildren and one great- grandson. Also surviving are four sisters, Buon (Barry) Thongvanh of Storm Lake, IA, Quych Baccam of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Chanthamone (Monekham) Hacksisombath of Arkansas, and Phimmachanh Baccam of Des Moines, IA; one brother, Sayphet (Dai) Baccam of Des Moines, IA. Choum was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Khoi Baccam and Go Baccam; one brother, Toykham Baccam; and by two sisters, Tin Baccam and Bong Cam.
