Charlotte L. Davis, 99, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Open visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Milo Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Congregational Universalist Church of Mt. Pleasant and the Mt. Pleasant Public Library. Born on July 22, 1907, Charlotte was the daughter of Asahel H. and Mary Etta Becker Davis, east of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She attended East Highland, a rural school, until her family moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1918. She then attended Mt. Pleasant Schools and graduated in 1925. Following graduation, Charlotte attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years and earned a teaching certificate. She then taught school at Wyman and Winfield. In 1940, Charlotte completed her bachelor's degree at Iowa State Teachers' College, now known as the University of Northern Iowa. Following the completion of her bachelor's degree, she taught at the Junior High School in Mt. Pleasant. In 1950, when Lincoln School opened, she assumed the role of both teacher and principal. She retired from Lincoln School in 1973, after 44 years in public education. Charlotte was a member of the Congregational Universalist Church and the Women's Society of the church. She was a member of Founder's Chapter of T.T.T., Daughters of the American Revolution, Henry County Teachers' Association, and a 50 year member of Order of the Eastern Star, Bethlehem Chapter #38. She enjoyed gardening. Charlotte is survived by cousins, Gene Copeland of Fairfield, IA and Denver, CO, Keith Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Betty English of Fremont, CA, Carolyn Willey of Corydon, IA, Marjorie Willey of Corydon, IA, Mary Tremmel of Burlington, VT, and Patricia Sellers of San Francisco, CA, along with various other cousins. Along with her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Davis and Harold Davis and one sister Eunice Reisch.
