Charles E. Watt, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, May 05, 2007, at the Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, MI. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with Richard Otis officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, IA. A memorial has been established to the Community of Christ Church. Born September 5, 1918, in Silver Creek, NE, Charles Edward was the son of Alexander "Sandy" and Margaret "Maggy" Dickerson Watt. He was a graduate of Lamoni High School, where he lettered in football three times. On August 18, 1940, he married N. Eunice Dickerson in North Bend, NE. After their marriage, the couple settled in Lamoni, IA. Mr. Watt was then drafted into military service. He served in the United States Navy in Gropak 8 Company 1344, during World War II. He was stationed in Saipan and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon at the end of his military service. Charles worked at various jobs during his career while living in south central Iowa. He trained plow horses, farmed, worked in animal husbandry and had a creamery route. He was also skilled as an electrical appliance repairman. While living near Afton, IA, Charles and his wife were foster parents for sixteen troubled children. In 1979, the family moved to a small farm near Sibley, MO, where he worked as a custodian at Blue Springs Grade School until his retirement. In 2002, Charles and his wife, Eunice, moved to Mt. Pleasant. An active member of the Community of Christ Church, Charles served as a deacon and especially enjoyed assisting with youth activities. Survivors include three sons, C. Edward (Lois) Watt, Jr. of Peoria, IL, Earl (Dana) Watt of Bath, MI, and Bob (Ann Klingensmith) of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and one daughter, Diana (Hung) Le of Fremont, CA. Mr. Watt is survived by ten grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Nara Ghazaryan of Armenia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son David Watt, along with five brothers, Bill, Lloyd, Lawrence, Ollie and Frank Watt, and one sister, Edith Kneedler.
