Charles Simmons, 84, of Trenton, IA, died Tuesday, June 03, 2014, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Friends may sign the register book on Monday, June 9th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel from 12:00 noon till 5:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Forest Home Cemetery with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. Born September 17, 1929, in Downy, Missouri, Charles J. "Chuck" was the son of Warren and Goldie (Andres) Simmons. On September 18, 1952, he married Merna Rich in Trenton, IA. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2012. Charles worked in the maintenance department for many years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. Later, he owned and operated a welding shop in Trenton. Chuck served in the Iowa National Guard. He loved to fly airplanes and ride Harley Davidsons. At one time, he owned and piloted a small plane. He enjoyed fixing anything mechanical and working on those projects. Charles was an avid country music fan and personally found pleasure in playing the dobro musical instrument. Survivors include a daughter, Sherri Martin of Shawnee, OK; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Merna; his parents; one brother, Avon Simmons and one sister, Hazel Mowrey.
