SIGOURNEY-Charles L. Hicklin, age 82, of Sigourney, died Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Charles was born October 24, 1930, in Sigourney, to Charles Walker and Daisy Dona (Ramey) Hicklin and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1949. He was then married and to this union three children were born: Mark, Melanie and Renee. Charles worked in retail sales for many years until his retirement. On August 6, 1995, he married Darlene Hammond in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Following marriage the couple moved to Sigourney. Charles was a member of the Christian Church, Webb Lodge #182, Aspasia Chapter #198 Order of the Eastern Star, the Gideons and served as treasurer of the Lancaster Heritage Association. He also sang with the Ottumwa Chiefs barbershop group and enjoyed genealogy and traveling. Survivors include his children, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Darlene and sister: Arlene. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Lancaster Christian Church in rural Sigourney, with Revs. Dirk Alspach, Jim Bringman and Dave Matteson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Martinsburg. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013, at the Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a masonic service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Gideons or Lancaster Heritage Association.
