Charles Keith "Chod" Wilkerson, age 82, of North English, died on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Chod was born on June 4, 1932, in North English, Iowa, the son of William Henry and Hattie Mae Morrison Wilkerson. He graduated from North English High School in 1949 and worked for the North English Record, and was a cream route driver. Chod served in the US Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954. Chod married Sylvia K Davis on August 28, 1955 at the North English Christian Church. He worked as a storekeeper at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa County Farm Service, Moorman Feeds and later he and Sylvia owned and operated the North English Cleaners for over 19 years, retiring in 1998. Chod was a member of the North English Christian Church. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, hunting, fishing, mowing, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia of North English: four children: Debra (Bart) Showalter of Shueyville, Scott (Nancy) Wilkerson of North English, David (Lynn) Wilkerson of Adel and Shari (Kevin) Banes of North English; eight grandchildren: Jason Showalter, Andrew Showalter, Emily O'Connor, Paige Wilkerson, Derek Wilkerson, T.J. Wilkerson, and Jessica O'Rourke and Amanda Clubb; six great grandchildren: Addison & Aiden Showalter, Samuel O'Rourke, Teagan & Emmersyn Clubb and Wyatt Gray. Also surviving are brother and sisters: Frances Littrel of North English, Norman (Tib) Wilkerson of North English, Ed Wilkerson of Ottumwa, Dolores Wardenburg of Williamsburg, and Robert (Butch) Wilkerson of North English. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leonard, William Dean & Clarence Wilkerson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Powell Funeral Home, North English, with Pastor Luke Caster officiating. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4-8 PM at Powell Funeral Home.
