North English- Charles Harris Jennings was born June 2, 1952 in Brighton, Iowa the son of William Kenneth and Ethel (Smith) Jennings. He graduated from Washington High School and went on to Kirkwood Community College to learn the welding trade. He worked 15 years at P&H Crane in Cedar Rapids. Chuck met Julie Ann Clark in Cedar Rapids and they were united in marriage in 1981. They lived in North Liberty until making their home in North English. Chuck started his own business, Charles Jennings Construction, he worked hard at that business for the next 43 years. After 8 years of marriage, Chuck and Julie were blessed with their son Stuart. He became the most important thing in Chuck’s life. Stuart brought out the best in him. They have shared many memorable moments together. Becoming “Gampa” to Addie made him smile like no one else could. He will be missed by those who really got to know him. Chuck was a member of the North English Christian Church. He enjoyed construction projects, old cars, food and his dogs. Chuck died on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his home in North English, at the age of 71 years.
He is survived by his wife Julie of North English; a son Stuart (Amanda) Jennings of Madrid; a granddaughter Addie; sisters Jean Engle of Sigourney and Lisa (Michael) Carr of Indiana; a brother Ez Smith of Washington; and a sister-in-law Rosemary Jennings of Kalona. He was preceded by his parents; three brothers Ron, Jr., and Bill Jennings; and a sister Carol Hagens.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the North English Christian Church. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 - 11:00 am at the church.
