Williamsburg- Charles Eugene Hollopeter, was born August 16, 1929, south of Ladora Iowa, the son of Charles Oscar & Laura Ida (Slaymaker) Hollopeter. He was a 1947 graduate of Ladora High School. Charles was drafted into the United States Army, serving as a Sgt, during the Korean Conflict. On December 18, 1953, he married Jo Walton in Marengo, together they lived in Ladora until 1998 and The Rio Grand Valley LaFeria, TX for 10 years, before moving to Williamsburg. Charles was a member of the United Methodist Church. He loved being outdoors, camping, mowing and gardening. Charles died on Friday, May 17, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his wife Jo of Williamsburg; 2 sons: Thomas (Jeanne) Hollopeter of Brooklyn and Tim (Rae Jean) Hollopeter of Ladora; 5 grandchildren: Heather Hollopeter of Belle Plaine, Lisa Hollopeter of Grinnell, Amy (Nick) Arens of Hartwick, Samantha (fiancé Gene Condon) Hollopeter of Williamsburg and Wendy (Graham) Oswald of St. Louis, MO; 5 great grandchildren: Chryton & Graydon Arens, Gavin, Tyson and Nora Oswald; a brother Bill Hollopeter of Ladora; a sister Betty Hollopeter of Marengo and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded by his parents; 2 sisters: Mary and Hazel; and 3 brothers: Lawrence in infancy, Frank and Dean. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Marengo American Legion. There will be military rites followed by lunch and fellowship with the family. A memorial fund has been established for Safe Haven of Iowa County.
