MILLERSBURG - Charles "Charlie" Alfred Lortz was born July 13, 1929 near Millersburg, Iowa, the son of George Alfred and Mabel Pearl (Montross) Lortz. He graduated from Millersburg High School. On March 29, 1951 he was united in marriage to Beulah Wyant in Kirksville, Missouri. They made their home in the Millersburg community where Charlie farmed until 1986. They then moved to Iowa City where Charlie worked at the University of Iowa until retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, traveling, watching the Chicago Cubs and all things Hawkeye. Charlie passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 87 years.
Charlie is survived by his wife Beulah of Iowa City; 5 children: Cindy (Mike) Ewen of Davenport, Jeff Lortz of Marengo, Becky (Jim) Risdon of Marengo, Christine "Bub" (Randy) Folkmann of Parnell, David (Elaine) Lortz of Marion, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a sister Georgia Warner of North English. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Deborah Schultz, a grandson Jason Schultz, and 2 sisters Katheryn Orr and LaDean Haack.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Millersburg United Methodist Church in Millersburg. Rev. Michelle Williamson and Rev. Kirk Statler will officiate. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. A memorial fund has been established for For The Nations.
