MOUNT PLEASANT- Cecelia J. Richards, 91, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Cecelia was born May 6, 1933, in Niota, Illinois, the daughter of John and Florence (Boeddeker) Hogan. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Fort Madison, and continued her education at Quincy College. Cecelia worked as an elementary school teacher. On August 16, 1958, Cecelia was united in marriage to Dick Richards at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison. The couple made their home in the Danville community for many years. Cecelia was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, and Altar and Rosary. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and traveling.
Cecelia is survived by daughter Barbara (Randy) Brown of Mount Union; two sons David (Cathy Sanders) Richards of Montrose, Mark Richards of Danville; eight grandchildren, Mitch (Julie) Brown, Sarah Edwards, Kevin (Kelsey) Brown, David Richards, Mary Richards, Curtis (Mary) Richards, Trent (Melissa Flowers) Richards, Miranda Richards; eight great grandchildren; and sister Mary Scheetz of Nauvoo, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, daughter in law Michelle Richards, siblings Alberta Wetherill, Irene Parrott, Margaret Haas, Cleta Beimer, Martha Galbraith, George, John D. and Bernard Hogan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2024, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Rev. Ross Epping will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. The Olson-Powell Chapel & Crematory is caring for Cecelia and her family.
