It is with much grief, but even greater hope in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we announce that on October 2nd, 2018, Catherine Sue (nee Armbruster) Grout of Forest, Virginia fell asleep in the Lord at the age of 67 after a recent diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Catherine was born on April 18, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa to Frances and Eileen (nee Strabla) Armbruster. She graduated from Highland High School in 1969. Catherine married Warren Grout in 1971 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside and was blessed with three children: Nathaniel, Damien, and Kara.
Catherine moved with her husband and young family to Denver, Colorado in 1980 where they served the Lord at South Sheridan Baptist Church for many years. A gifted teacher, Catherine enjoyed and was committed to Christian education for young and old, spending time as a pioneer in homeschooling her children, teaching Children's Sunday School classes and Awana, and later teaching a popular Ladies' Sunday School class.
After relocating to Lynchburg, Virginia in 2000, Catherine was consoled with the unexpected loss of her beloved daughter, Kara, by in depth Bible study, where she held on to God's precious promises to His People. Her biblical and theological knowledge enabled her to serve for several years as an assistant Teaching Leader in Bible Study Fellowship.
In her latter years, Catherine suffered from intense chronic pain, but enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, and especially loved good conversations about our hope in Christ and worshiping Him with her church family at All Saints Reformed Episcopal Church in Lynchburg.
Catherine is preceded in death by both her parents, her brother, Andy Armbruster, and her daughter, Kara. She leaves behind her loving husband, Warren, her devoted sons and their families: son Nathan and his wife, Donna, their children: Wesley, Stephen, Anna, and Emily, son Damien and his wife, Jolie, as well as her sister, Jane and brothers Rich Armbruster and Tim Armbruster.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the South Sharon Cemetery in rural Kalona. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Catherine and her family.
