North English- Catherine Grace Shaull was born January 5, 1939, at Grinnell Hospital in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Edward (Ted) Reitzler and Lois Crider Reitzler. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1957, valedictorian of her class. On June 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Carrol Lee Shaull at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Millersburg. They moved to the Shaull Farm west of town and were married 61 years. She was an accomplished pianist and played the organ for many years at St. Joseph’s Church in North English and for many weddings and countless funerals. Besides being “hired man” on the farm she loved gardening, her flowers and cooking her family’s favorite foods. Catherine died on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo, at the age of 85 years.
She is survived by her six children Linda Shaull of Ames, Mary Shaull of Ft. Dodge, Roberta Icenbice of Hartford, Wisconsin, Karen (Mike Walker) Shaull of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Dana) Shaull of Deep River and Kevin Shaull of Millersburg; eight grandchildren Matthew Icenbice of Barnes City, Erica Post of Humbloldt, Katelyn (Andrew) Tenold of Lake Mills, Brittney (Ryan) Goodrich of Davis California, Tadd (Anna) Shaull of Waverly, Audrey (David) Black of Delaware, Ohio, Dwight (Rebecca) Shaull of North English and Colbie Shaull of Montezuma; nine great grandchildren Keaton Icenbice, Jason & Madilyn Icenbice, Coen & Corinne Tenold, Lara Kate, Trevor & Dalton Shaull and Allison Jean Shaull; a brother Jim (Marsha) Reitzler; sisters Carol Winternheimer, Susan (Gerry) Fitzgerald and Jean (Chuck) Yanders; and a brother-in-law Gary (Connie) Shaull. She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother, husband Carrol in 2019, a grandson David Icenbice, father & mother-in-law Jerry and Aileen Shaull, and a sister-in-law Patsy Shaull.
Celebration Of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Bernard’s Cemetery, rural Millersburg.
