KEOTA-Catherine Mae Malley, age 87, of Keota, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Parkview Manor in Wellman, following a brief illness. Catherine was born May 12, 1919, in Crawfordsville, Iowa, to Samuel and Myrtel (Stewart) Stites. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School and attended Junior College in Washington, Iowa. On September 22, 1940 she married Leo James Malley in Muscatine. The couple made their home in Keota where Catherine was a librarian for 25 years. Catherine was a member of the United Church of Faith, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Past Worthy Matron, and was a former member of the Fortnightly Club. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, camping and traveling. Survivors include two children: Barbara Ann Finch and husband Steven of Leavenworth, Kansas and James Lester Malley of Keota; two grandchildren: Michelle Creasy of Bristol, Tennessee and James Finch of Newport Beach, California and two great grandchildren: Eric and Brian Heintzelman, both of Easton, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Leo in 1999 and brother: Carl Stites. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Pastor Sallie Graves officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the United Church of Faith or the Washington County Humane Society. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
