Williamsburg-Catherine E. Lortz was born February 12, 1915 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of David M. And Catherine E. (Lewis) Roberts. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1933. Catherine was united in marriage to Max Lortz on February 14, 1940 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Catherine worked for the Williamsburg Public School as a cook for 27 years until retiring in 1982. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church were she sang in the choir for a number of years. She also was a member of the Miriam Circle and the Lydia Circle. Catherine died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids due to complications of age at the age of 96 years. She is survived by two daughters: Bonnie Brown of Hiawatha and Susie Windsor of Rochester, Mn; a granddaughter; five step grandchildren and a great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1998, four sisters: Pearl Walters, Ethel Jones, Leona Walters and Leola McGranahan. Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg and visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home.
