Catherine Ann White

Catherine A. Slobodnik White, 47, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, April 24, 2010. Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28th at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Christian Vigil service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Phung, celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Henry County Health Center Foundation. The daughter of James and Marilyn Schneider Slobodnik, Cathy was born on March 21, 1963, in Council Bluffs, IA. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1981, and then attended Indian Hills Community College for two years. She married Ritchie Ferguson, and they later divorced. In 1986, she married Mark Alan White. They divorced in 1999. She worked as a waitress at the Iris Restaurant. Later she was a lineworker at Motorola/Celestica for several years. Most recently, she worked as a lab technician at Henry County Health Center. Cathy was raised and confirmed in the Catholic faith. An avid NASCAR and Cubs fan, Cathy also enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, walking her puppy, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved to travel,and took many motorcycle rides with friends on a Harley Davidson. Cathy was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003. Cathy is survived by two daughters, Melissa Ferguson and fianc, Eric Larson of Mt.Pleasant, IA and Alexandra White of Clarksville, TN; one son, Jesse White of Davenport, IA; four brothers, Francis (Cathy) Slobodnik of Topeka, KS, Stephen (Judith) Slobodnik of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Mark Slobodnik of Spring Grove, PA, and Christopher Slobodnik of Spring Grove, PA; three sisters, Anne (David) Russell of Davenport, IA, Therese Slobodnik of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Lisa (Rickie) Brooks of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one step-granddaughter, Olivia Larson; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Slobodnik.
