Carolyn J. Troyer was born November 6, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Erma (Stutzman) Troyer. She attended Washington #1, a rural one-room country school. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1966. Carolyn lived in Iowa City where she worked in food services at the University of Iowa Hospital and as a cook at the Iowa Memorial Union. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coralville where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She enjoyed being with her friends and family. She has lived at Pleasantview Home in Kalona since 2010. After a courageous battle with health issues, she died peacefully on Saturday December 1, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 65 years. Carolyn is survived by three brothers; Omer Troyer and wife Mary Jane of North Port, Florida; Loren Troyer and wife Kathy of Hernando, Florida; Clayton Troyer and wife Laverna of Kalona; a sister Marlene Miller and husband Dan of Mayhill, New Mexico; and a close friend Betsy Rediger of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery in Wellman followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coralville. Pastor Royce Phillips will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Tabernacle Church Mission Projects and Pleasantview Home.
