Caroline A. Ellis, age 95, of Brooklyn, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2023, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Rev. Dorothy Banzhaf officiating. Visitation: 10:00 a.m., until service time at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2023, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Interment will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed in Caroline’s name to P.A.L.S. (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter) or to the family to plant a tree in her memory. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.

Caroline is survived by two sons, Kenneth and Ronald Ellis, of Brooklyn; a grandson Ryan (Stephanie) Ellis, of Littleton, CO; a granddaughter Amanda (Matt) Kasten, of Clear Lake; a step-granddaughter, Katie Goetzinger, of Pontoc, MS; three great-grandchildren, Henry Ellis and Ariel and Graysen Kasten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mabel Phillips; her husband, George Verlin Ellis; her siblings, Paul (Marion) Phillips, Ralph (Bonnie) Phillips and Clifford Phillips; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Ellis.

Caroline Ada Phillips was born August 28, 1927, near Delta, the daughter of Lawrence and Mabel (Morrison) Phillips. She attended a country school in Keokuk County. Caroline and her family moved to rural Grinnell in 1934 and then to Barnes City in 1937. She continued her education in Barnes City, graduating in 1945. She married George “Verlin” Ellis, of Oskaloosa, and of this union, two sons were born. Verlin was in the U.S. Army and the family lived in various places, until making their home in Brooklyn in 1962.

Caroline was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Auxiliary and the South Side Circle Club. She enjoyed caring for her cats.
