KEOTA-Carmelita Elizabeth Sieren, age 90, of Keota, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at the Maplewood Manor in Keota, from complications of a stroke. Carmelita was born February 20, 1915, in Plank Township, Keokuk County, Iowa, to Joseph and Henrietta (Besser) Clarahan and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Harper. On January 9, 1935, she married Raymond Sieren at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. He died in 1936. On September 13, 1938, she married Carl Michael Sieren at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. A lifelong resident of the Harper and Keota communities, Carmelita was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and the Altar and Rosary Society. She did volunteer work at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Carmelita enjoyed gardening and having family over to her home to visit and eat. Survivors include her husband: Carl Sieren of Keota; seven children: Marianne Vogel and husband Louis of Atlanta, Georgia, Raymond Sieren and wife Judy of Keota, Francis Sieren and wife Janice of Dallas, Iowa, Michael Sieren and wife Patricia of Keota, Bernadette Johnson and husband Rick of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Leo Sieren and wife Jane of Keota and Mary Patterson and husband Randy of Fayetteville, Tennessee; 33 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and one sister: Winifred Britten of Creston, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband: Raymond; grandson: Doug Sieren; three infant brothers: Peter, Raymond and Francis, and brother: Richard Clarahan, and three sisters: Maud Vogel, Loretta Beinhart and Mary Gent. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be an Altar and Rosary Society Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
