Keota-Carl Michael Sieren was born September 13, 1916 in Clear Creek Township, Keokuk County, Iowa,the son of Mike and Margaret (Greiner) Sieren. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul school. Carl was united in marriage to Carmelita Elizabeth (Clarahan) Sieren on September 13, 1938 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. A lifelong resident of the Harper and Keota communities, Carl enjoyed farming all of his life. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church and served on the building committee for St. Mary's. Carl died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Maplewood Manor in Keota after a brief illness at the age of 89 years. Carl is survived by seven children: Marianne Vogel and husband Louis of Atlanta, Georgia, Raymond Sieren and wife Judy of Keota, Francis Sieren and wife Janice of Dallas, Iowa, Michael Sieren and wife Patricia of Keota, Bernadette Johnson and husband Rick of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Leo Sieren and wife Jane of Keota and Mary Patterson and husband Randy of Fayetteville, Tennessee; 33 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; a brother: Elmer Sieren of Keota and three sisters: Corrine Lenahan of Rock Island, Illinois, Ann O'Rourke of North English and Theresa Peiffer of Keota. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carmelita in June of 2005; grandson: Doug Sieren; four brothers: Raymond, Leonard, Paul and Joe Sieren and a sister, Helen Rose Sieren. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.. A general memorial has been established.
