Carl Klingensmith, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Creston, IA, died Friday, October 27, 2006, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 30, 2006, beginning after 12 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant, IA. The family will greet friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 31, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Creston, IA., at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Born October 4, 1920, in Adair County, IA, Carl was the son of Charles and Anna Walsh Klingensmith. He was a graduate of Orient High School. In April of 1959, he married Catherine Ann Hess at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Creston, IA. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1977. On March 19, 1982, he married Ruth D. Silone at the Holy Spirit Parish in Creston. She survives. Mr. Klingensmith was a farmer and was engaged in an earth moving operation with his partner and brother, Eugene Klingensmith. In 1968, he purchased the Standard Gas Station and Car Wash in Creston, and operated that establishment for several years. He retired from the business in 1995. Carl and Ruth raised two of their granddaughters, Brenda and Cheryl Landry, after the death of their mother, Becky in 1987. In 2004, the Klingensmiths moved to Mt. Pleasant. Carl was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish in Creston and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid woodworker and produced many pieces of furniture from his woodworking shop. Carl is survived by his wife Ruth of Park Place in Mt. Pleasant, IA; one daughter Ann Klingensmith and her husband Bob Watt and their daughter Erin Watt of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two granddaughters, Brenda Landry and Cheryl and her husband Matt Rooney, along with their children, Gabrial, Jessica, and Alison Rooney, all of Richmond, VA; two step-daughters, Rose Hansen of Seattle, WA, and Darlene and her husband Jack Merriefield of Yellville, AR; two step-sons, Frank Silone and Paul Silone and his wife Lasini all of Tacoma, WA; one brother Bernard Klingensmith of Houston, TX; and one sister Rita Klingensmith of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Catherine Ann, a step-daughter Becky Silone Landry, a brother Eugene (Mary) Klingensmith and sister-in-law Lavern Klingensmith.
