SIGOURNEY-Caldona Kitzmann, age 87, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney following a brief illness. Caldona was born March 26, 1921, in North Plank Township, Keokuk County, Iowa, to Nick and Christina (Bensmiller) Wehr and received her education in Plank # 9 country school. She grew up and lived in the home place where she worked at Dick's Corner several years and then as a nurses' aide at the Keokuk County Health Center. On April 12, 1971, she married Loren Kitzmann at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Following marriage the couple lived in rural What Cheer. Caldona moved back to Sigourney in 1990, following Loren's death. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Listen A Bit Club and I.C.C. Club. Caldona enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, crocheting and traveling with Loren. Survivors include three nieces: Mary Lewis and husband Richard, Anne Zavis and husband Scott and Jeanette Gent and husband Hubert; one nephew: Robert Wehr and wife Paulette; cousin: Richard Kitzmann and his family; six great nieces; four great nephews; three great great nieces and six great great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Loren in 1989; two sisters: Clara Wehr and Marguerite Himler; two brothers: Joseph Wehr and Clement Wehr; one nephew: Russell Wehr; one great niece: Natasha Wehr and one great great nephew: Jacob Lewis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be a McFarlan Cemetery near What Cheer. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where there will be a wake service at 6:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
