Brian Durst

WELLMAN-Brian Richard Durst, was born October 21, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Richard and Bonnie (Hutton) Durst and graduated from Keota High School in 1987. He was in the National Guard and Army Reserves. Brian did his basic training in Ft. Loenard Wood, Missouri and his Army medic training at Ft. Sam Houston where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. On March 2, 1991 Brian was united in marriage to Diane Vinton and later divorced. He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1998 and worked his way up to becoming a Conductor. Brian was currently stationed out of Ft. Madison Union Pacific Railroad. Brian was an avid photographer. He always saw the beauty in everything, which reflected in his photos. He enjoyed music, karaoke, trivia, debating the Bible and golfing with his grandma Ruth, spending evenings with his friends at West Point and sitting around a camp fire. Brian loved watching his niece and two nephews in anything they did, he would give the world to them if he could, they were the love of his life. Brian loved to travel, he has been on several cruises. His last cruise was with his aunt Jo Criss to Alaska last year. He was a member of the NRA and Prairie Hunting Club. Brian died Saturday, August 29, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 46 years
Survivors include his mother: Bonnie Durst of Wellman; sister: Heather Fox of Wellman; a niece Alivia Fox and two nephews Spencer and Joshua Fox all of Wellman; grandmother: Ruth Hutton of Sigourney; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.He was preceded in death by his father: Richard Durst; daughter Iris Grace; grandparents: Aldus "Shorty" Hutton, John, Sr. and Bertha Durst.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman, with Rev. Moody Colorado officiating. Burial will be at Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A general memorial fund has been established.
