Bounxom Malavixai, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, October 06, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the services. Burial will be at a later date in Laos. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born February 5, 1938 in Chumpasak, Laos, Bounxom was the son of Simma and Wanh Malavixai. He married Kom Sylavong in Thailand in 1979. Mr. Malavixai served in the Laotian military for several years. He became a Buddist monk while living in Laos. Bounxom moved to the United States in 1990. He worked as a production worker at Lomont Molding and later was employed by Alaniz Sons, where he worked for six years prior to his retirement. Bounxom was always ready for any fishing outings. He also liked to go dancing and enjoyed watching his favorite television programs. Survivors include his wife Kom Malavixai of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sons, Somsack Bouttakhot of Milwaukee, WI, Somphone Sylavong of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Phouthone Sylavong of Des Moines, IA; one daughter, Somphet Vongphouthone of Peoria, IL. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
