Bonnie J. Pickard was born April 23, 1951 in Galesburg, IL to Richard and Margaret (Elmore) Triska. She grew up in Salem, IA and attended Salem schools graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School. After high school Bonnie attended beauty school to become a hair stylist. On June 20, 1970 she married Larry Pickard in Salem, IA and moved to Emporia, KS. In 1974 Larry and Bonnie moved to Kalona, IA. In 1989 she lived in Aibonito, Puerto Rico where she volunteered as a school librarian. Throughout her life Bonnie worked as a hairstylist, bookkeeper, administrative assistant, small business owner, home school teacher, and a CNA. She enjoyed being with family and friends, mentoring women, reading, studying the Bible, playing Settlers of Catan and cards, gardening, enjoying nature, sitting on her porch swing, volunteering at Crowded Closet, cooking, being a host mother for international students, leading bible studies, and being involved in her grandchildren's lives. She was a past elder at Kalona Mennonite Church and IMS school board member. Bonnie passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at her home at the age of 59 years. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Larry, three children - Jeremy (son) and Renea Pickard, Kalona, Josh (son) and Julie Pickard, Chanhassen, MN, Jeana (daughter) and Jason King, Kalona; grandchildren Abby, Dominick, Camron (Jeremy), and Carter (Josh); her mother Margaret Triska; and two sisters - Susan (Bill) DeWolf and Teresa (Chuck) Kramer all of Salem. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Triska, and infant brother James Triska. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Pastor Scott Swartzendruber and Pastor Mick Murray will officiate. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Kalona Mennonite where the family will greet friends from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Washington County, Kalona Mennonite Church, and Education fund for grandchildren.
