Bonnie Schaffner, age 79, died on Friday, September 23, 2011, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Sunday, September 25, 2011, in the Millersburg Cemetery, Millersburg, with Chaplain Mary Beth Siemann officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. A general memorial fund has been established. Bonnie Loretta Schaffner was born on January 31, 1932, in Millersburg, Iowa, a daughter of Arnold and Fern Shaull Grimm. She graduated from Millersburg High School and was a life-long resident of the Millersburg area. Bonnie attended the Zion Church north of Millersburg and was united in marriage to Richard Schaffner on September 9, 1951, at that church. She later became a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and loved preparing big family dinners with all her children around. Bonnie loved her flowering rock gardens, quilting, crafting stained glass projects for her family,afternoons with the Red Hat Ladies, and trips to Tama.. Bonnie became a resident of the English Valleys Care Center in December 2008. Bonnie is survived by her husband Richard of Millersburg; daughter Janet (Terry) Morse of Williamsburg; son Roger (Annette) of Millersburg; daughter Penny (Doug) Wood of Ottumwa; son Brett (Pauline) Schaffner of Manchester; grandchildren: Christine Kolstee (Paul Monroe) , Cathy Greiner (Isaac McMullen) ; Caleb (Jessie) Schaffner, Jacob Schaffner (Shelby Kahler); Josh (Kacie) Wood, Matt (Cheryl) Wood, Josh and Jacob Tri; great grandchildren: Kyle Greiner (Sykala Sadler), Scott and Sadie Greiner; Marissa Kolstee and Brayden Monroe: sister Vonda Netser of Logansport, IN; sisters-in-law Betty Schaffner and Mary Grimm. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Maxine Faas, and brother Keith Grimm.
