Marengo- Blanche Ella Katherine Powell was born January 14, 1915, in Iowa Township, Iowa County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Adolph & Mathilda (Hopp) Schwarting. She attended Immanuel Parochial School, rural Williamsburg. Blanche was united in marriage to Byron H. Powell, in Sedalia, Missouri on September 27, 1938. Together they farmed 38 years in the South English area, until moving to Marengo in 1985. Blanche was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. She was a farm helper and a seamstress all her life. She also enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Blanche died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, at the age of 99 years. She is survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded by her parents; husband Byron; three brothers: Raymond, Milford and Wilford Schwarting and a sister Ruth Von Lienen. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, February 28, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, from 9:30 AM until service time, at the church.
