KEOTA-Blanche Christner, age 99, of Keota, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Blanche was born November 8, 1905, in Brighton, Iowa, to Bill and Etta (Lauderdale) Houston and attended country school. On April 16, 1924 she married Ezra Christner in Washington, Iowa. The couple lived in Washington and Keokuk Counties most of their married lives. A homemaker, Blanche enjoyed cooking, gardening and raising her children. Survivors include six children: Viola Schaeffer of Moline, Illinois, Hubert and wife Beverly Christner of Sigourney, Maxine and husband Robert Carris of Keota, Forrest Christner of Riverside, Marvin and wife Rita Christner of What Cheer and Freda Quick of Colfax; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and 32 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Ezra in 1991; two daughters: Lucille Koth and Ruby Rockhill; one grandson: Randall; one granddaughter: Tammy; one brother: Bryan Houston and one sister: Tempest Farrier. Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Keokuk County or the Manor House Care Center. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
