Billy Dale Ballard, age 78 of Marengo, formerly of Millersburg and Williamsburg, is now reunited with the love of his life Kathie. He passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Compass Memorial Hospital. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Masonic  Service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.

Billy is survived by his daughter Barbara Ballard, of Marengo; a daughter-in-law Kelsie, of Middle Amana; three grandchildren, Blake (Kayla) Heller, Lisa Heller and Sidney Ballard; five great-grandchildren, Maddex Heller, Easton Anderson, Greenlee Kitzman, Graham Heller and Audrey Gregg; a sister, Joyce (Steve) Parsons, of Conroy; and a sister-in-law Mary Ann (Jim) Boardman, of Cedar Rapids; six nieces and nephews, Jenny (Cary), of Van Horne, David (Susan), of South Amana, Becky (Kevin) of Boone, Lori (Kevin), of Oklahoma City, OK, Jim Jr. (Shelley), of Cedar Rapids and Erin (Scott), of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathie in 2014, a son Billy in 2019 and an infant brother, Donald and a niece Carrie.

Billy was born November 30, 1942, in Millersburg, the son of Dale and Muriel (Smith) Ballard. He graduated from DRM High School in 1961. He married Katherine “Kathie” Houseman on July 6, 1962, in Iowa City. The couple made their home in Millersburg, Williamsburg and moved to Marengo in 1992. Billy worked as a mechanic with heavy equipment the Cedar Rapids Truck Center and various other local shops. He loved being a mechanic. Together, Billy and Kathie created many pieces of willow furniture and clocks. They also taught classes together. Billy was full of life. He loved family and friends dearly, but most of all his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the young people he worked with. Billy was a long time, proud member of the Williamsburg Stellapolis Masonic Lodge #391, Kinross Farmers Lodge #168 and Oxford Canopy Lodge #290. He enjoyed playing cards, photography and going hunting with his son, grandson and brother-in-law.
