Beverly Kennedy

Beverly "Bev" Kennedy, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, IA died Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will be held beginning at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8th at Faith Christian Outreach Church with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Fellowship Cup. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born January 31, 1933 in rural Henry County, IA, Beverly Rose was the daughter of Dallas and Florence (Richenberger) Heater. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1950. On September 9, 1951 she married Robert Illian Kennedy at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. They were lifelong residents of Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2001. Bev was a homemaker and enjoyed tending to the needs of her family. Over the years, she worked as a clerk at Panther Rexall Drug and Leuellen Clothing Store. For many years, Bob and Bev were caretakers and hosts of the Friendship House; a ministry of Fellowship Cup. For the last several years she worked part time at Hy-Vee Food Store. Bev was an active member of the Faith Christian Outreach Church. She loved reading books and faithfully read her Bible. She served in the women's prison ministry in Mt. Pleasant and participated in two mission trips to Scotland. Bev was a long time member of the St. Alphonsus women's prayer group. Her passion was cooking and entertaining. Food was a way to gather people together, and she would watch the Food Network and read many magazines, eager to try new recipes. Family was a high priority to Bev, and she enjoyed gardening, flowers, feeding birds and early morning walks. Survivors include one daughter, Denise (John) McCormick of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sons, Doug (Barb) Kennedy, David (Teresa) Kennedy, and Dan Kennedy all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; seven grandchildren, Laura (Cong Lu) McCormick, Michelle (Hayden) Waterham, Alicia (Eric) Mendenhall, Gavin (Heidi) Kennedy, Katlin Kennedy, Sam Kennedy and Megan Kennedy; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Waterham, Cary Lu and Evelyn Waterham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Robert, preceding Bev in death are her parents, and a sister, Patty Heater Kircher.
