Beverly Hodson, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday July 5, 2013 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends until the time of the service. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Health Center Foundation. Born July 22, 1926 in Jefferson County, IA, Beverly Jean Srout Hodson is the daughter of Paul T. and Ruby (Foraker) Litton. She attended Crawford's Academy of Cosmetology in Burlington, IA. On February 10, 1944 she married Lt. Jack Srout, and the couple resided in Salt Lake City, UT. He died June 21, 1944 while serving his country during WWII. Together they had one son, Jackie H. Srout, who died April 3, 1946. On April 2, 1946 Beverly married Jack W. Hodson. The couple raised two sons, and were married for 53 years. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1999. Beverly has lived in Peoria, IL, Victorville, CA, Salt Lake City, UT, Darhart, TX, and Kearney, NE before returning to Iowa and moving to Mount Pleasant over 60 years ago. She worked for Day and Zimmerman at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA. She also worked as a Luzier Cosmetic representative for several years. Active within the community, Beverly was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hope Circle, MP Women's Club, Bridge clubs, Gold Star Wives of America (North Central Region), Vets Auxiliary #2561, Am Vets Auxiliary, Henry County Health Center Auxiliary, Women of the Moose #1081, Academy of Friendship, and R.S.V.P. Hobbies included traveling, cooking, playing bridge and Wii bowling. She enjoyed sharing her life with family and friends. Survivors include two sons, James Hodson of Texas and Michael (Linda) Hodson of Wisconsin; three beloved grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Thibodaux and Jessica Hodson of Texas, and John Hodson of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Beverly in death are her parents; two husbands; one son; two brothers, Virgil Litton and Wendell Litton along with sister-in-law Betty Litton; one sister and brother-in-law, Amy (Ivan) Holden; and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Kay Hodson. The family would like to express a special thank you to the following for the care and support they gave to Beverly, our mother and grandmother; the staff at Sunnybrook, visiting nurses, special friend Shirley and all those friends that shared their time with her over the past years.
