Betty White, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that evening. The Requiem Holy Eucharist will be at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 17, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Wayne Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to St. Michael's Episcopal Church and the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. The daughter of Fred E. and Grace E. Lloyd Beck, Betty Marie was born on June 25, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Betty was raised in the Oakland Mills area and lost her mother at a young age. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in 1941 at the age of 16. The first couple to be married in the Oakland Mills Community Church, Betty married Harold Truman White on June 30, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1986. Betty was an engraver for Sheaffer Pen Company in Mt. Pleasant after high school. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager at Breazeale Insurance and Breazeale Flying Services. She also worked for Overseas Construction Service in Mt. Pleasant. Known to many people as a candle maker, family and friends were very important to Betty. She enjoyed golfing and bowling, was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club Women's Golf League, and over the years bowled on many bowling leagues. Betty was an antique collector and a member of the Huldah Saunders Questers. She was a Green Bay Packers fan and loved feeding and watching the birds. Betty was a longtime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She had been an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and held many offices within the church. Mrs. White is survived by one son, Kent (Pat) White of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one grandson, Andrew J. (InHee) White of Seoul, South Korea; one granddaughter, Kami J. White of Portland, OR; and a great-granddaughter, Lola White of Seoul, South Korea. She is also survived by two sisters, Jane Snider and Grace "Pat" White, both of Burlington, IA; and numerous, beloved nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Beck in infancy, and two brothers-in-law, Lee Snider and Leonard White.
